About SMP

Using technology and living innovation – for the pattern making and prototyping of tomorrow.

We want to keep developing our processes and continuously strive for new technological progress. This goal enables us to gain new insights quickly, adapt technologies and make the best use of new technical possibilities. We also want to identify risks and opportunities for SMP early by gathering information in good time and always timing investments in new technologies well.

Understand and learn

To keep developing, we strive to continuously improve our existing processes and use new technologies. Research and development projects form the basis for future innovations. Our work is driven by our enthusiasm for new ideas. We are convinced that prototypes make future-proof innovations possible. That is why our highest goal is to support you at all times with the best technologies for realising your ideas.

Continuously evolving quality

For us, quality means meeting your expectations and needs – you, as our customer, define what quality is. We are proud to always meet your requirements, whether in the production and further processing of your prototypes, the service around your projects or support in your development process. The high quality of our prototypes is at the centre of everything we do and forms a reliable bond with you as our customer.

Supporting our people

We know that quality comes from qualified people. That is why we place great value on continuously supporting and training our employees. Personal responsibility, training opportunities and room for creative projects both develop and motivate. In an open, reliable and appreciative environment, we create a working atmosphere in which we achieve the best for you, our customer.

Our history

We were founded in June 2003 in Dresden as SMP Daniel Schüßler Modell- und Prototypenbau. At first we focused on designing and producing plastic prototypes. A year later we invested in a 3-axis CNC milling machine, enabling CNC machining of metals. Soon after came the production of aluminium sand castings and the purchase of a 5-axis CNC milling machine.

Our building in Dresden soon became too small, so in 2008 we moved to our new premises in Heidenau. We gradually filled the new space with further 5-axis CNC milling machines and finally completed our production profile with a CNC turret lathe.

In 2013 our new production hall was completed, allowing us to expand our sand casting department professionally. The hall has since also housed our quality assurance, equipped with an X-ray system, 3D measuring arm, hardness tester and more. We are currently testing robot-assisted heat treatment.

The next step forward in project coordination and quotation came with the introduction of our ERP system in 2020, integrated into our quality management software. We also reorganised project control with a broader project manager structure and fully digitalised project management.

In the following years we consistently digitalised and automated our production: a robot cell with zero-point clamping and RFID enables unmanned production at night and at weekends, while digital tool management and around 730 standardised fixtures keep set-up times short. Today we combine all machine and process data in a journal and use it to calculate forecasts – so we know our weak points and plan around them.

We also use our own AI, operated offline, to analyse complex customer parts internally, and we are testing collaborative and remote-controlled robots. We are ready to break new ground. Since the beginning of 2026 our team has been growing again, in 2027 we will continue to recruit – and we are preparing our employees specifically for the new technologies.

Confidentiality

Innovations can only pay off if they are protected – from the first spark of an idea to market launch. Especially in the early stages of product development, the highest confidentiality is needed so that the potential of ideas is not lost to others. Out of our passion for new ideas and future-oriented products, keeping your data safe is a matter close to our heart. We have defined standards for handling your sensitive data, and we agree with you exactly how confidentiality is implemented in our cooperation to meet your specific requirements.

Our research and development projects

We are your partner for greater efficiency. To meet the constantly changing and growing requirements of our customers and industry, we are actively involved in research and development projects.

One of our current in-house projects deals with the thermal deburring of sand castings within our automated production. We are also working on detecting air bubbles simultaneously with the pouring process in aluminium casting. This research is part of a funded ZIM project.

In addition, we are running an in-house project on the automatic documentation of casting processes. Building on the latest developments in artificial intelligence, we are also working on a learning project on pattern recognition with self-developed machine learning (ML/DL) programs.
