We take responsibility!

Sustainability is part of our everyday work – in all areas of our business we place great value on the responsible use of resources. Additive manufacturing, recycled materials and regional supply chains are the three pillars of our sustainable way of working.

Prototypes shape the future. That is why it is important to us not only to integrate social and environmental concerns into our business, but to prioritise them. Only then can we make sure that the resources and conditions for the new ideas we love will still exist in the future.

We want to be a role model and an innovative supporter of an open, future-oriented society. That is why we firmly support current ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) developments.

Future through innovation

Together with universities, research institutes and industrial development partners, we drive innovation in materials and manufacturing processes. We regularly and critically review and optimise our process chains, actively shaping our future.

Artificial intelligence – securely in-house
Artificial intelligence has arrived at SMP too. We use our own AI, operated offline on our own servers. This lets us use modern AI without your data ever leaving our company – your design data and ideas remain confidential and protected. You benefit especially with complex components: we analyse your parts internally with our AI and give you findings and recommendations – before production starts. We are also open to collaborating with other companies’ AI systems – for example for quotes via EDI (electronic data interchange) and AI, or automated order routing.

We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern technology and the fresh perspective of our apprentices – for the future of our company, our customers and our environment.

Future through commitment

Our goal was to produce largely CO2-neutrally from 2025 – we narrowly missed this target. We keep working on it and continuously reduce our material and energy consumption. With recycled materials, electricity from our own photovoltaic system and international compensation projects, we are on the right track to becoming a climate-neutral company. Beyond our energy and resource management according to DIN ISO 14001, we are involved in regional networks and social projects.

To make environmentally conscious action part of our daily routine, our rooftop photovoltaic systems generate our own green electricity. We schedule energy-intensive steps around casting on sunny days whenever possible – with this “fair-weather casting” we make the best use of our own solar power and reduce costs and CO2 emissions. Our vehicle fleet is exclusively electric. We also keep beehives on our green spaces to help protect these beneficial insects. In our foundry we work exclusively with inorganic binders – out of environmental awareness and to protect our employees.

Live, learn, teach

What use are great goals if they are not achieved? To live responsibility rather than just talk about it, we work proactively to get a little closer to our goals every day.

A big step towards sustainability was the introduction of paperless work processes, which we implemented with tool management software and our motivated team. Combined with electricity from our photovoltaic system, this allows us to save CO2 now and in the future.

Beyond our impact on the environment, we feel a responsibility towards our region and society. We want to give something back and are committed to the sustainable development of our social environment – by creating secure jobs, strengthening regional technical expertise and supporting social projects.

Our employees are the heart of our company. We practise equal pay: women and men receive the same hourly wage – our gender pay gap is 0 %. We value our team and encourage close cooperation between all departments through an open culture of communication and team-building activities. The health and satisfaction of everyone is very important to us, which is why our workplace health management continuously supports well-being. We want our employees to benefit from their work with us in the long term, so we continuously support our team with professional training. By offering apprenticeships, we grow both professionally and personally and remain fit for the future. We set the highest standards for our training programmes and support young people on their way to becoming specialists in technical craftsmanship.
