Guide prices and enquiries

Every part is different – which is why we do not have a price list. So that you can still judge early on whether your project fits your budget, you will find rough guide values from our invoiced orders here.

All values are rough, non-binding ranges (net, plus packaging and freight, as of 10/2026). You will receive a binding price with our quotation.

Rough estimate: one-off costs + quantity × unit price. Additional services such as heat treatment, surface finishing, extended inspection or express orders come on top. Sizes refer to the longest edge: small up to approx. 150 mm, medium up to approx. 400 mm, large above that.

Aluminium sand casting

  • One-off costs (pattern equipment): medium-sized parts approx. 400–8,500 €, large parts up to approx. 20,000 €
  • Unit price including machining: usually approx. 150–700 €
  • Typical unit price by quantity: 1–2 pcs approx. 650 €, 3–20 pcs approx. 250 €, 21–200 pcs approx. 200 €

PU vacuum casting

  • One-off costs (master model and silicone mould): small approx. 300–700 €, medium up to approx. 1,500 €, large up to approx. 3,500 €
  • Unit price: small below 50 €, medium approx. 50–200 €, large approx. 900–3,000 €
  • Typical unit price by quantity: 1–2 pcs approx. 200 €, 3–20 pcs approx. 100 €, 21–200 pcs approx. 50 €

CNC milling from solid material

  • One-off costs (programming, set-up): approx. 100–1,200 €
  • Unit price: small up to approx. 200 €, medium up to approx. 900 €, large up to approx. 1,200 €
  • Typical unit price by quantity: 1–2 pcs approx. 400 €, 3–20 pcs approx. 200 €, 21–200 pcs approx. 50 €

Whether milling from solid or casting with machining is more economical depends on geometry and quantity – we compare both when you enquire.

Repeat orders

If the pattern, mould or program is already with us, the one-off costs are largely eliminated – usually only set-up costs of approx. 15–200 € apply.

What affects the price

  • Size and weight of the part
  • Complexity: cores, undercuts, thin walls, long flow paths, tight tolerances
  • Machining: number of faces, holes, threads and tolerances – often a large part of the price
  • Material – for milling from solid e.g. plastic, aluminium or steel
  • Further processing: heat treatment, painting, powder coating, inserts
  • Inspection scope: X-ray, measurement report, material certificates
  • Quantity: the more parts, the more the one-off costs are spread. We are particularly economical for approx. 3 to 200 parts.
  • Delivery date: express orders cost more than our typical lead time of 2.5 to 4.5 weeks.

Frequently asked questions about prices

As a rough, non-binding range: the pattern equipment costs approx. 400–8,500 € for medium-sized parts and up to approx. 20,000 € for large parts. The unit price including machining is usually approx. 150–700 €. Example: for 10 medium-sized parts, add roughly 10 × 250 € to the one-off costs.

Master model and silicone mould cost approx. 300–700 € (small), up to approx. 1,500 € (medium) or up to approx. 3,500 € (large). The unit price is below 50 € for small parts, approx. 50–200 € for medium-sized parts and approx. 900–3,000 € for large parts.

Programming and set-up cost approx. 100–1,200 € once. The unit price is up to approx. 200 € for small parts, up to approx. 900 € for medium-sized parts and up to approx. 1,200 € for large parts – depending mainly on material, machining volume and tolerances. Whether milling from solid or casting with machining is more economical depends on geometry and quantity; we compare both when you enquire.

Because the one-off costs for pattern, mould or programming are spread over fewer parts. Typical unit prices (median) for 1–2 / 3–20 / 21–200 pcs: aluminium sand casting approx. 650 / 250 / 200 €, vacuum casting approx. 200 / 100 / 50 €, CNC milling approx. 400 / 200 / 50 €. We are particularly economical for approx. 3 to 200 parts.

If the pattern, mould or program is already with us, the one-off costs are largely eliminated. Usually only set-up costs of approx. 15–200 € apply.

Yes, considerably. As a rough guide, our pattern or silicone mould usually costs less than a tenth of a series tool and is ready in less than a third of the time – depending on the part. This lets you test your component before investing in the tool.

Send your 3D data (STEP or IGES) with quantity, material, deadline and requirements to info@smp-prototypen.de, subject “Price estimate”. For a preliminary estimate, data of a similar part is enough. You will then receive a binding quotation.

How your enquiry works

For a reliable estimate we need:

  • Purpose (functional sample, test run, B sample, pre-series, small series) and, if applicable, the later series process
  • Material or series material
  • Quantity and requested date
  • Requirements: tolerances, machining, heat treatment, surface, inspection certificates
  • 3D data as STEP or IGES – for a preliminary estimate, data of a similar part is sufficient

Send your enquiry to info@smp-prototypen.de with the subject “Price estimate”. We are happy to sign non-disclosure agreements; your data stays in-house and is not passed on to external services.

Good to know

  • Prototypes for future series parts: parts that will later be die-cast or injection-moulded are first made by sand casting or vacuum casting – usually 1:1 from your series data and with properties matched to the series material.
  • Everything from one source: casting, heat treatment, machining and inspection in-house.
  • In-house inspection: X-ray, spectral analysis, tensile tests, measuring arm.
